'Acid Test' video

I am currently in Castle Douglas in SW Scotland, where I grew up for the most part, soaking up some rain. It’s a small market town, and I have vivid memories of walking past the abattoir on my way to school every morning listening to the sounds of cattle terrified out their wits. It does boast the title of ‘Galloway Food Town’ right enough which means that my favourite lunch is to be found just up the street at one of the local delis, called Deli 173. It’s a ciabatta called the ‘Godfather’ which as you can imagine consists of all things Italian, and I’ve been eating one every day since I arrived here. What is it about black olives? Forget money. I want paid in black olives from now on.

Last week I was in Highgate however, doing the video for Acid Test which I hope will be up on the website very soon.

I really like it. It features a lovely little girl called Rose who does a great job of bringing in a darker element to the whole affair. We’re both wearing red dresses and mucking about in a lovely great house with ivy growing up the walls. Inside walls that is.

There were also a group of guys that joined us for the shoot who can be seen moving bits of furniture around the place while I manage to carry on singing the song without bursting into fits of laughter which I was tempted to do all day.

The director is called Lucy Cash:, whose short films and video installations are listed here. I loved what I had seen of her work and was really keen to do something with her. I turned up at the house at 8am on the morning of the shoot and nearly burst out laughing when I saw how many people were there. We did manage to get a hell of a lot of work done in one day however so I doft my hat to all responsible.

I would chat a little more about the ideas behind the video but then I would start to feel a little squeamish so I’ll leave it to you good folks to draw your own conclusions. I never feel too comfortable explaining these things – it’s the same with lyrics. Always best to leave them to their own devices me thinks.

There were some great photos taken of the set on the day and I hope to get these up on the site later this week too.

Cheers for now,
Emma
